I have a dark place inside. I feel like I have been creating a monster, or trying to fight one within. Maybe I now realize that the darkness is the music industry in New Zealand, or what so-called industry we have! The anti-success, overrated full of themselves middle earth looking a*#holes that run this country's music scene who wouldn't have a clue if good music came up to them and gave them a blow-job. They may have it bagged though, that much could be true, and that is the problem. I see bands being recycled like good food turning into shit. I see tall poppy syndrome, and the higher they are, the worse it gets! There are so many bands out there, and so many songs for people to listen to, which gives us so much choice, that it is all starting to be generic. I don't think there are any bands in NZ that are a true original bringer of a new sound. I am probably one of them. It's OK, I just do what I do, and everyone else does what they do, and that makes us happy. For the record, there are some really awesome new acts out there. But therein lies true happiness and prosperity, yet music is going out of business, BIGTIME! Why, you ask? I can't stand it anymore! Come inside, I warn you it's dark and there's no one here but me, just me and my songs. And you say "oh no not more crap music, not more songs I don't really care about and have no time for"!!!!! Let me tell you right now....I don't care either!!!! Because, just like you I am fed by the ever-turning music machine, that same machine these people I'm telling you about that are feeding our grandparents prosperity, and it's garbage! And I'm not talking about the music. I'm me, not them, these record execs, movers and shakers are the devils elite (and that is not a compliment). Our young - and even older, are being deceived in what they think should be popular. It's working, good on them, wish I had thought of that one. But really there is no choice, we are told what to buy because the video on the TV looks so good and it's being hyped up to make you think it is the coolest thing and if you have it you will be cool or something like that! But thats only a side of it and to be honest I don't want to get into that anymore than this. In a nutshell, I can see the government has socialized music in New Zealand. Why in hell did we decide to give the power to the government and those affiliated to decide what music prospers in this country? I had a dream that we lived in a society or nation that allows us to create an idea, work really hard and reap rewards for that work, and be free to prosper equally so as fit to the realm you succeed in your level of opportunity. And if you make gazillions of dollars then great, then that reward is the level of achievement gained. Sorry guys, but government should never EVER be in charge of giving some people jobs, and not others, respectively when it comes to the arts.
This has happened all through history, especially with the financial elite in the world with business. The same thing happened to our music industry here in NZ. An elite group of people control it and they won't let you in, even and especially if you are better than what they have. We should be free to make our own doors and find our own way in through sheer hard work and effort to prosper in what we love to do. Not have the government agents stop us from doing so, and making it difficult to compete with the handshakes that go on between this small group. We need to take that power away from government and see who really lands on their feet! Have you seen the acts that win competitions in NZ, e.g myspace? There is always a Teresa Patterson or someone alike who has handshaked their new band in, possibly even before the competition has begun. But we all know competitions are a great way to generate attention and is really good for marketing an event. That is all it is, a game! And your band is usually the pawn. I still stand true to the fact that competitions are never a professional way to start a career in music, especially for longevity. Why jeopardize your talent and have someone say you weren't good enough? But that is entirely up to you and that is just my opinion. In true laymen terms, it was highly likely already decided! Anyways.....Life is a journey - not a destination. and for so long I tried to reach this invisible station stop. No more! I want to get back on the train and enjoy the ride. And I would like it if you could come along. If you don't like it then you are free to get off at the next station. There will be power, darkness and light, music, lights, and it's going to be loud and energetic, melodic and emotional. Maybe we may change the face of music in NZ, or even the faces of the industry forever! Let the journey begin - f#@k the destination! On one side, I give you my music. I worked blood, sweat and tears to finish this, and you can have it for free. Why make music if no-one will hear it. Give it to all your friends too, go on, the train is departing! On the other side we need to figure out, research and get our facts straight about the industry here in NZ and change it so future generations can have the freedom to succeed without the government (or them masquerading as NZ On Air) and it's angels controlling the scene! Government should never think it has the power over the people, people should never think the government holds any power over us, and we should all realize that we have power over governments. That is how it was supposed to be. Socialization of a lot of things have happened, are happening and will happen, and this is because our leadership think we are followers and have even taught us to be reliant on them, even within the music scene! No band in history has ever spoken so loudly against this farce, or to those who submit us to this deceit, than now! Do you know there is a certain rock station who is guilty of a clique that arrogantly let their friends have all the glory, so I have heard! It could be true! Is it? I think so! Who f*$king cares though right? Here we go baby, lets open the cracks, show their sores and blow it out of the water. Get rid of government control and the NZOA music funding department and give the power back to the musicians and in all instances save a few tax dollars instead of wasting it on crap music! Someone is getting very rich from these tax $$$$, and it's not who it should be. Enjoy my songs BTW, more will be added as I do more albums. Cheers |
